Q: It is reported that successive large-scale riots erupted in Central Kalimantan and Riau provinces of Indonesia, which have caused serious property losses to ethnic Chinese people.  What is your comment?

A: We have taken note of the reports about successive large-scale riots in Central Kalimantan and Riau provinces of Indonesia.  It is our hope that the Indonesian Government will take effective measures to ensure the safety of life and properties of people of all ethnic groups including ethnic Chinese.
