Chinese Vice Premier arrives in Indonesia for official visit

At the invitation of Indonesian Vice President Yusuf Kalla, Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang arrived at Indonesian city of Surabaya Indonesia for an official visit on  Dec. 20, 2008. 

Li said in a written statement delivered at the airport that he was delighted to visit Indonesia, noting that the development of friendship between China and Indonesia, both as important developing nations in Asia, serves to the fundamental interests of the two nations and the two peoples.

"China highly values the strategic partnership with Indonesia and I hope my visit will help boost understanding between the two peoples, expand cooperation with mutual benefit in an effort to step up the bilateral relations," Li said in the statement.

During his visit, Li is expected to meet Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, hold talks with Kalla, attend a China-Indonesia energy forum, and have extensive contacts with representatives from various Indonesian communities to exchange views on the bilateral relations and other regional and international issues of common concern.

The 11-day tour, Li's first overseas trip since he took office as vice premier in March, will also take him to Egypt and Kuwait.
