China opens its first General Consulate in Indonesia

 

China's Consulate General in Surabaya was officially opened in this capital of East Jawa Province on Nov 9, 2006. It is China's first Consulate General in Indonesia since the two countries resume diplomatic ties in 1990.

Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia H.E. Lan Lijun, Consul General to Surabaya H.E. Fu Shui-gen and East Jawa Province's Governor H.E. Iman addressed a ceremony which marked the official opening of the Consulate General. The area of responsibility of the Consulate General includes East Jawa Province, Bali Province, East and West Nusa Tenggara Provinces.

According to the agreement reached by China and Indonesia, China has the rights to set up two consulates general in Surabaya and Medan with the latter not yet opened, while Indonesia has already opened its two consulates general in Hongkong and Guangzhou, with another one planned to be set up in Shanghai in the future.
