Li Changchun, a visiting senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), hailed the relationship between China and Indonesia on Thursday, saying the relationship is in rapid development in the new century.
"There is a long history of traditional friendship between the Chinese and Indonesian people. The two countries are good neighbors though divided by the sea," Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said in a written statement issued upon his arrival for an official visit to Indonesia.
"In the new century, China-Indonesia relations have entered rapid development, with bilateral cooperation expanding in political, economic and cultural areas. The two countries have kept close coordination in international and regional affairs," he added.
Indonesia is the last leg of Li's four-country tour. He came to Indonesia after wrapping up a visit to Colombia.
Li said the development of China-Indonesia relations has brought concrete benefits to the people of the two countries and it is also an important contribution to regional peace and development. He called for more cooperation and coordination.
"Our two countries should continue to strengthen communication and coordination, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in every aspect and make greater contributions to regional peace, stability and prosperity," he said.
During his three-day visit to Indonesia, Li is scheduled to meet Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and House speaker Marzuki Alie. He will also deliver a speech in the University of Indonesia. (Xinhua)
