Wu hails all-round development of ties with Indonesia(10/12/2004)

   JAKARTA, Oct. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- Visiting senior Chinese leader Wu Guanzheng, in a meeting with Indonesia's parliament speaker Agung Laksono here on Tuesday, hailed an all-round development of bilateral relations between the two countries.
   
   Wu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, told Agung that there have been frequent exchanges of top-level visits between the two countries in recent years and political trust is also increasing.
   
   Trade and economic cooperation is expanding and bilateral relations are growing in an all-round way, said Wu, who is also secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.
   
   Wu arrived in Jakarta Monday night for a good-will visit to Indonesia, the third leg of his four-nation tour, which will also take him to the Philippines. Wu has already visited Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
   
   The legislative bodies of the two countries have also maintained close contact, the senior Chinese leader added.
   
   Wu thanked Indonesia for having been a steadfast supporter of China's position on the Taiwan issue over the years, adding that China has all along attached importance to the development of friendly relations with Indonesia and is ready to work together with it for steady growth in bilateral ties.
   
   Wu also briefed Agung about the history of the CPC, its basic policies and main tasks, as well as its contact and exchanges with political parties in other countries.
   
   Agung, speaker of the House of Representatives, noted the smooth development of bilateral ties in recent years and said the expansion of friendly exchanges between the governments, politicalparties and parliaments of the two countries has given an impetus to the mutually beneficial cooperation in other fields.
   
   The further development of the good-neighborly and friendly ties between the two countries will be conductive to peace and stability in the region and the rest of the world, Agung said.
   
   Later in the day, Wu also met with a group of leading members of the Golkar Party. The CPC is ready to further strengthen friendly contact and exchanges with Indonesia's political parties,including the Golkar Party, as part of the joint efforts to push forward the development of relations between the two countries, Wusaid.
