Ambassador Xiao Qian Attends the Handover Ceremony of Medical Supplies to Indonesia Donated by Chinese Government

On August 10th 2021, medical supplies donated by the Chinese government to Indonesia arrived in Jakarta in. On the afternoon of August 10th, Ambassador Xiao Qian, Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs Mr. Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, and Minister of Health Mr. Budi Gunadi attended the handover ceremony and signed the handover certificate at the event.

In his remarks, Ambassador Xiao said that China and Indonesia have made concerted efforts in combating COVID-19 since its outbreak. As the famous Indonesian saying goes, "berat sama dijinjing, ringan sama dipikul". China has been paying close attention to the COVID-19 situation in Indonesia, and has come to Indonesia's aid by donating 120 ventilators, 400 oxygen concentrators, 12,000 sets of oxygen face masks and oxygen nasal cannulas. On August 10, ventilators donated by Chinese Government were delivered to Jakarta via China Eastern Airline chartered flight, along with 498 oxygen concentrators donated by PT Huayou Cobalt and 50 high flow oxygen concentrators donated by Ningbo Lygend. The rest medical supplies donated by the Chinese Government are scheduled to arrive on August 13th. Furthermore, China's Ministry of National Defense, local governments, Red Cross Society and enterprises have also made active efforts by donating a large number of COVID-19 vaccines, oxygen concentrators, oxygen tanks, masks, protective clothing, testing kits, ventilators and other supplies to the Indonesian side. It is hoped that these medical supplies will make a contribution to Indonesia's early victory over the pandemic. It is believed that through the test of COVID-19, the friendship between the two countries and people will further flourish.

Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut said that Indonesia and China enjoy close relationship, both countries have maintained close cooperation in various fields including trade, investment, culture and education. In the face of the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, the governments and peoples of the two countries helped each other to overcome the difficulties. At the critical moment when a new wave of the pandemic hits Indonesia, the valuable and timely support rendered by China has made a great difference to Indonesia in its fight against the coronavirus. No country can fight the pandemic alone. Indonesia and China must face this unprecedented challenge together in solidarity.

Minister Budi thanked China for its continued support for Indonesia's fight against the pandemic. He said that the medical assistance shows the humanitarian spirit of China, and he looks forward to further anti-pandemic cooperation with China in the future.
