Mr. Sun Weide, Chargé d' Affaires Discusses China-Indonesia Bilateral Relations and the 19th CPC National Congress at Kuningan University
 (2017-12-06)

On 4 December 2017, Mr. Sun Weide, Chargé d' Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia discussed China-Indonesia bilateral relations and the 19th CPC National Congress with students at Kuningan University,West Java Province.

Mr. Sun reviewed the history and current status of the bilateral relationship between China and Indonesia. He said that last year, China-Indonesia bilateral trade stood at 53.5 billion US dollars, accounting for around 1/5 of Indonesia’s total foreign trade and ranking China as the largest trading partner for 6 consecutive years. China has remained as Indonesia’s 3rd largest investor for 2 years and its investment nearly reached 2 billion US dollars in the first 6 months of 2017. China has been the largest source of overseas tourists in Indonesia for 2 years. Up to now, more than 1.5 million Chinese tourists visited Indonesia, and it would be expected to reach 2 million by the end of this year. At present, about 4,000 Chinese tourists visit Bali every day, which means one in every five foreign tourists in Bali is from China. More than 14,000 Indonesian students are studying in China now, making China the second most popular overseas education destination.

Mr. Sun also briefed the audience on the 19th CPC National Congress. The congress declared a new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and outlined a two-step approach to making China into a great modern socialist country. A more open and prosperous China will not only benefit more than one billion Chinese people, but also offer larger markets and more opportunities for growth, investment and cooperation to countries across East Asia and the world. It is estimated that in the coming five years, China will import 8 trillion US dollars worth of goods, receive 600 billion US dollars of foreign investment, and make 750 billion US dollars of outbound investment. Many countries along the Belt and Road Initiative including Indonesia will benefit from them. The comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Indonesia possesses an enormous potential and has a bright future,he said.

Mr. Edi Yusup,Director for East Asia and Pacific Affairs of Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Dr. Arifi Saiman,Head of Centre for Policy Analysis and Development on Asia-Pacific and African Regions (Policy Analysis and Development Agency) of MOFA,and Mr. Bambang Prihartadi, Deputy Director for Cooperation with Asia Pacific and Africa, Coordinating Ministry for Political, Law, and Security also attended the lecture and delivered remarks.
