Ambassador Xiao Qian Delivers Public Lecture at ITB

On 7 Dec, Ambassador Xiao Qian visited Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and delivered public lecture. Prof. Kadarsah Suryadi, Rector of ITB and Mr. Hari Purwanto, Senior Advisor of Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education escorted the visit. More than 200 lecturers and students from ITB listened to the lecture.

Ambassador Xiao spoke highly of the important contribution made by ITB to the development of the economy and society of Indonesia. He comprehensively reviewed the great achievements of China’s Reform and Opening-up in the past 40 years. As emphasized by Ambassador Xiao, China firmly pursues an independent foreign policy of peace and the path of peaceful development, China has been building friendship and partnerships with neighboring countries, China has been actively advocating for multiculturalism, defending the multilateral trade regime, so as to build a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for mankind.

As remarked by Ambassador Xiao, China and Indonesia are both major developing countries in Asia and important emerging markets. Both sides share extensive common interests at bilateral, regional and multilateral levels. Thanks to the strong leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Joko Widodo, both sides jointly promote cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Global Maritime Fulcrum strategy, the China-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership continues to deepen and deliver concrete outcomes. Now our partnership has entered a new stage and is growing fast.

Ambassador Xiao announced the following three measures to promote cooperation with ITB. First, the Chinese side is ready to facilitate more universities from China to establish cooperation with ITB in areas both sides are interested in. Second, to deepen cooperation in science, technology, and innovation in cutting-edge areas such as cybersecurity, cloud computing, big data, AI and other cutting-edge areas, so as to contribute to the Industry 4.0 strategy of Indonesia. Third, to provide more scholarships from Chinese government and universities to ITB.

Rector Kadarsah warmly welcomed Ambassador Xiao’s visit to ITB. He briefly introduced the basic condition of ITB, as well as the progress on higher education, research and innovation. He hoped to further deepen substantial cooperation with China in the future.

Ambassador Xiao held meeting with Rector Kadarsah before the public lecture. After the lecture, on behalf of the Embassy, Ambassador Xiao donated more than 40 books to ITB. Ambassador Xiao also visited the Ocean Engineering Laboratory and the Center for Railway Technology and Industrial Development in ITB.
