Thanks to our dedication over the past 69 years, especially since the reform and opening-up 40 years ago, China has achieved a tremendous transformation: it has stood up, grown rich, and is becoming strong. We are crossing the threshold into a new era. In this new era, China maintains strong momentum of growth. In the first half of 2018, China’s economy expanded by 6.8%, stabilizing at a medium-to-high range of 6.7% to 6.9% for 12 consecutive quarters. China has contributed more than 30% to the global economic growth for the past several years. In this new era, more Chinese people benefit from the country’s growth. Now, we Chinese people feel more satisfied, happier, and more secure than ever before. In this new era, China stays committed to reform and opening-up. We hope to work with all countries in the world, including Indonesia and other ASEAN countries, to uphold the multilateral trade regime, promote openness in global economy, and follow the path of openness and connectivity for win-win cooperation.

Ambassador Xiao said, this year, we celebrate the 5th anniversary of China-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The strategic leadership by President Xi Jinping and President Joko Widodo has ensured healthy and steady growth of bilateral ties. We are entering a new era featuring high-performing relations with bright prospects. We have enhanced synergy between development strategies. Our first such flagship project, the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, is making steady progress. We signed MoU on cooperative development of Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridors. We have increased both quantity and quality of bilateral trade and investment. In the first half of 2018, our bilateral trade registered a year-on-year increase of 28%, reaching 37.4 billion US dollars. With direct investment exceeding 1.34 billion US dollars, China remains Indonesia’s 3rd largest foreign investor. Bilateral people-to-people and cultural exchanges have achieved vigorous growth. In 2017, the number of Chinese tourists to Indonesia passed the threshold of 2 million for the first time and is expected to continue growing rapidly this year.

Ambassador Xiao said, this year also marks the 15th anniversary of China-ASEAN Strategic Partnership. For a decade and half, China’s relations with ASEAN have grown exponentially through tackling common challenges and upholding peace and prosperity. China-ASEAN cooperation is among the most successful and dynamic in the Asia-Pacific. This year is the China-ASEAN Year of Innovation. We are fostering new highlights of cooperation in such areas as smart city, e-commerce, artificial intelligence and internet plus.
